- Article 1: Scope and Purpose
1. The Terms of Service for the Tokyo Tech Online Community (the "Terms") prescribe necessary matters for the smooth operation of the Tokyo Tech Online Community, managed by National University Corporation Tokyo Institute of Technology (the "Institute").
2. The purpose of the Tokyo Tech Online Community is to facilitate communication and engagement among the Institute, students, alumni, teaching staff, and other members.
- Article 2: Eligibility
Use of the Tokyo Tech Online Community is restricted to registered members accepted by the Institute ("Registered Members").
- Article 3: Agreement to the Terms
1. By using the Tokyo Tech Online Community, Registered Members are deemed to have agreed to and accepted all of the provisions of these Terms.
2. Notifications that the Institute sends to Registered Members are regarded as part of these Terms.
- Article 4: Amendments
1. These Terms may be amended at the discretion of the Institute without prior notice. By continuing to use the Tokyo Tech Online Community, Registered Members are deemed to have agreed to the amended Terms.
2. The amended Terms become effective at the time of their publication on the Tokyo Tech Online Community website.
- Article 5: Precautions for Use
1. In principle, the Institute is not responsible for any communications or activities conducted among Registered Members. The members involved are responsible for resolving any disputes that arise between them.
2. The Institute does not guarantee the reliability of registered information. Registered members are responsible for providing accurate information and keeping it up-to-date, as well as for judging the reliability of information obtained from the website.
3. Registered Members will be held accountable for their actions on the Tokyo Tech Online Community. Posting inaccurate or harmful information that violates laws or infringes upon rights may result in civil and criminal liability. Each Registered Member is responsible for ensuring that any information he or she posts on the community website conforms to copyrights, portrait rights, and other legal obligations as well as to restrictions on data-storage and data-duplication.
- Article 6: Disclosure of Personal Information
1. The Institute may disclose the following personal information of Registered Members to the Tokyo Tech Alumni Association or other alumni associations authorized by the Institute.
i. Student ID number
ii. Affiliation (School, Department, Major)
iii. Year, month, and date of graduation/completion
iv. Gender
v. Full name, name in katakana, name at the time of graduation, and name at the time of graduation in katakana
vi. Residential information
vii. Employer information
viii. Date of birth
ix. Email address and telephone number
2. The personal information mentioned in the preceding paragraph will be used for the following purposes:
i. Confirming the identity of a Registered Member when he or she applies to join the Tokyo Tech Online Community
ii. Sending announcements or requests to Registered Members
iii. Sending postal mail to Registered Members
iv. Responding to inquiries from Registered Members
v. Compiling lists of graduates and alumni association members
vi. For Registered Members to browse the lists mentioned in the preceding item
vii. Conducting surveys of Registered Members
viii. Properly operating and managing the Tokyo Tech Online Community
- Article 7: Prohibitions
1. The following are not permitted when using the Tokyo Tech Online Community.
i. Promoting, encouraging, or participating in illegal or unlawful activity
ii. Offending public order and morals
iii. Committing acts that may be detrimental to other Registered Members, third parties, or the Institute
iv. Interfering with or disrupting the Tokyo Tech Online Community servers, or their use by other Registered Members
v. Interfering with or disrupting the operation and network systems of the Tokyo Tech Online Community
vi. Damaging the credibility, violating the privacy, or infringing upon the publicity rights, copyrights, or other rights of another person
vii. Promoting or participating in discrimination relating to ethnicity, race, gender, age, religion, etc.
viii. Campaigning before and during an election, or violating the Public Office Election Act
ix. Using message functions to upload, post, or send data such as registered information, spam, chain mails, MLM, and other content via the Tokyo Tech Online Community for the purpose of solicitation or commercial advertisement
x. Impersonating an individual or entity, or otherwise misrepresenting your affiliation, including pretending to have the authority to represent another person or organization, either intentionally or by negligence
xi. Collecting or storing another Registered Member’s personal information
xii. Duplicating, reproducing, uploading, posting, transmitting, or distributing without permission any Tokyo Tech Online Community service information
xiii. Two or more individuals sharing a single account, or a Registered Member allowing a non-member to (temporarily) use the account
xiv. Committing other acts deemed inappropriate by the Institute.
2. The Institute reserves the right to change or delete registered information, terminate registered accounts, or take other procedures necessary, without notice to the Registered Member, if a violation of the aforementioned prohibitions is found.
3. The Institute does not accept inquiries or complaints regarding measures taken in response to the violation of these Terms.
- Article 8: Suspension or Termination of Services
1. The Institute reserves the right to suspend or terminate the services of the Tokyo Tech Online Community in full or in part with or without cause at any time.
2. In the event of termination, the member will be given sufficient notice via the Tokyo Tech Online Community website as well as via the email address registered with the Tokyo Tech Online Community.
3. The Institute will not compensate for loss or damages of Registered Members resulting from suspension or termination of services of the Tokyo Tech Online Community.
- Article 9: Information Registered by Members
1. The Institute may disclose to third parties a Registered Member’s personal information, usage history, email content, and other information in the following cases:
i. When a legal request has been made by the court, police, or other judicial or administrative bodies and the like
ii. When a problem occurs regarding maintenance of the Tokyo Tech Online Community or the system
iii. It is determined that a Registered Member is in violation of these Terms or other laws and regulations, or social conventions
iv. When disclosure is deemed necessary to protect the rights and interests of the Institute, other Registered Members, or third parties
v. Any other cases where personal information is disclosed or used with the permission of the Registered Member
2. The Institute will protect all personal information registered on the Tokyo Tech Online Community according to the National University Corporation Tokyo Institute of Technology Privacy Policy.
- Article 10: Disclaimers
1. By violating any laws, regulations, or these Terms, Registered Members will disclaim all rights, claims, legal actions, cases, and proceedings against the Institute.
2. The Institute will not be responsible for any loss or damage of a Registered Member or third party caused by another Registered Member through use of the Tokyo Tech Online Community.
3. The Institute does not guarantee the completeness, certainty, accuracy, or usefulness of the Tokyo Tech Online Community content.
4. The Institute does not guarantee that devices and software used by Registered Members will be compatible.
5. Registered Members are responsible for any telecommunications carrier costs when connecting to the Tokyo Tech Online Community.
- Article 11: Claim for Damages
The Institute may claim damages (including attorney fees) against a registered member for any loss or damage resulting from the violation of laws, regulations, or these Terms through his or her use of the Tokyo Tech Online Community.
- Article 12: Legal Procedures
These Terms are governed by Japanese law. The Tokyo District Court, the court of first instance, will have jurisdiction over any disputes that arise between the Institute and a Registered Member pertaining to the Tokyo Tech Online Community or to these Terms.
